March 23, 2019: Hala Sportowa, Lomza, Poland:

Krzysztof Wlodarczyk 56(39)-4(1)-1 vs. Alexandru Jur 18(7)-2(1), cruiserweights boxing in a 10 round prizefight.

Wlodarczyk, left, is the seasoned vet going in versus a fighter who is stepping up.

“El Diablo“ Wlodarczyk is a boxer’s boxer whose debut at 18yo was at the start of the millennium. Wlodarczyk literally grew up in the square circle. The Polish veteran with an “old school” volume of bouts is a two-time cruiserweight world champion (IBF 2006-7, WBC 2010-14). He’s fought big names and usually won. “El Diablo“ has had quite a career, which is winding down as the 37 yo mounts his last run at a title. With the godfather of cruiserweights Usyk moving up to heavyweight, a bouquet of belts will be coming available as the division shuffles its ranks.

Alexandru Jur is a Romanian club fighter who has fought mostly in his homeland vs low level opposition. Having lost 2 of his last 5 bouts, Jur is certainly the opponent here as he steps into the ring, in a big step up against the Polish boxing icon. Jur’s last similar challenge ended quickly as a check left hook from the Russian Dmitry Kudryashov whipped his chin suddenly sideways in the 1st round last September. Moments later it was all over.

“El Diablo“ Wlodarczyk takes Alexandru Jur to hell and back, dominating him as Jur pays for his basic boxing faults. Wlodarczyk wins by TKO in round 8.

March 24, 2019; MGM National Harbor, Oxen Hill, Maryland: Sergey Lipinets 14(10)-1 vs Lamont Peterson 35(17)-4(2)-1, welterweights boxing in a 12 round prizefight.

Lamont Peterson is veteran boxer and former two weight-division champion whose amazing life story went from homeless to world champion. Taking 2016 off, this is only the 3rd bout Peterson has had in three and a half years. Losing 2 of his last 5 bouts, he suffered a beating at the hands of Errol Spence Jr in January 2018. By the middle of the bout “The Truth” was so overwhelming that Lamont’s corner was forced to stop the bout at the 1st second of the 8th Rd. The interview with trainer Barry Hunter and Lamont Peterson after the bout brought tears to Jab’s eyes, “…soldiers usually die on the battlefield…and at the end of the day, this is my son and I don’t care any more about boxing than I do him.” Beautiful words from an excellent trainer and wonderful person.

Sergey “Samurai” Lipinets is a former kick-boxer who shifted to pro boxing in 2014. By 2017 he had won the IBF Jr-Welterweight World Title by unanimous decision from Akihiro Kondo at the Brooklyn’s Barclay Center. But his 1st defense was against Oxnard’s Mikey Garcia, who out-boxed him and dropped him in the 7th round on the way to a clear unanimous decision in a very entertaining bout. Though “Samurai” went down for the 1st time in his career, he fought with courage and intensity learning a great deal through that loss to Mikey. Lipinets actually managed to wins a couple of rounds on the cards against the Mexican-American master.

Sergey Lipinets will be a bulldog tearing into the street-wise alley cat called “Havoc”. The scenario that trainer Barry Hunter endured in Lamont’s last bout may well be simulated again in this homecoming bout for Peterson, who hails from nearby Washington DC.

Jab expects this bout to be stopped by Peterson’s corner in the later rounds, as the “Samurai” Lipinets exerts pressure and pain, round after round. Though Lamont may win some rounds, he will not hold up to the hounding from Lipinets. Jab sincerely hopes that Lamont Peterson hangs up the gloves after this last loss.

Please check back on NYFights on Sunday for Jab Hook’s Epilogue for these bouts.
